We internalise the inner critic as our own voice, but there are so many places where this inner critic originates.⠀
When we internalise these thoughts as our own, we can think that the negative critical voice is our own. ⁠⠀

Being critical can manifest in many different ways, it can cause you to doubt your abilities, question your confidence and always have you second guessing yourself.⁠⠀

You can also become unnecessarily critical about your appearance, and become obsessive with not looking the right way, saying the right thing or fitting in.⁠⠀

Fight, flight or freeze:⠀
⠀
The flight, flight or freeze response is our body's natural way of coping with stress or a perceived threat. ⁠⠀

These biological and instinctual changes help us to respond appropriately to keep ourselves safe. ⁠⠀
The body produces a physiological response to stay and face the fear, keep us away from danger or freeze, when we feel emotionally overwhelmed or flooded and don't know how to respond. ⁠⠀

Sometimes when we perceive ourselves to be in danger, our bodies react in the same way, which is why when you experience anxiety and may know in a logical sense that you are safe, your body reacts much in the same way. ⁠⠀

So you’ll experience palpitations, sweating, racing thoughts, muscle tension, just to name a few. ⁠⠀

How do you start your day? ⠀

I am not a morning person. No really - you cannot talk to me in the morning. I am sleepy, grumpy so unless you approach me with a cup of tea - approach with caution. ⠀

So I’ve been trying to start my day to see if that changes the way that I feel about mornings. I’ve got a bit of a routine going that starts with moving my body, meditation and if time allows - journaling. ⠀

Am I still grumpy? Well, a bit yes, I think that’s never going to change overnight, but I do feel the difference and I’m able to string a sentence together rather than mumble incoherently, so that’s progress.⠀

They can be very controlling during times of conflict, by trying to dictate the way that you express yourself and then invalidate your feelings when you do.⁠⠀
